HP EliteBook X360 1040 G5 – Synnex FPT

A business notebook that converts into a tablet, the HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5 is sleek, feature-packed, eminently customizable, and…a bit expensive. It starts at $1,499 and can quickly venture north of $2,000 once you select some of the flashiest add-ons, such as a Core i7 processor and a unique, gorgeous anti-glare display. The version I’m reviewing here is $2,349, which is an eye-watering sum compared with consumer 2-in-1 convertible laptops, but right at home among competing business models like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga and Dell Latitude 7390 2-in-1. The EliteBook x360 1040 G5 is impressive, though HP’s own slightly smaller EliteBook x360 1030 G3 remains our top pick for business 2-in-1s.

A Corporate Slim-Down

One of the most relevant qualities of any business ultraportable, whether it’s a convertible or a conventional laptop, is its size and weight. For road warriors who daily dart in and out of conference rooms and TSA security lines, every inch and ounce matters.

Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions.

HP knows this, so it has made the EliteBook x360 1040 G5 both slimmer and lighter than its fourth-generation predecessor. The G5 measures 0.66 by 12.7 by 8.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 3 pounds, dimensions that make it the world’s smallest and lightest 14-inch business convertible, according to HP.
